Like all, i have been bugged by the Android bug and after numerable mentions by friends, retailers and salesmen, i finally decided to buy 1 android phone. Initially, i wanted to buy a cheapad android,to be used as a second device, but some great cajoling by the retailer cell point, i went for Galaxy S, the amoled one. To be candid, i was bowled over by its looks and the high frequency reviews, i used to go thru had created extremely high expectations from this device. But hear me, i was sorely disappointed with the device on the very day one itself. It heated and heated and add poor battery, i was like completely irritated with the phone. Few days later i told my tale to the retailer, cell point, who was very sympathetic and asked me to exchange it for some other phone. I checked with a few friends in twitter and finally i narrowed down to HTC Incredible S and Nexus S. Eventually the retailer convinced me to take Nexus S.
To be candid, i loved the phone; the looks, the camera, the mail features and to say the least the option of downloading great apps from Market. So i liked the phone. But as i settled with the phone, the cribber in me had managed to find lots of faults as well.
However to be fair, i shall first write the good and then the bad and the ugly about Nexus.
Camera - its awesome. 5MP means 5 MP and no cheating here
Mail interface - Good and unless you are a BlackBerry addict, you will like it
Browser - Very good, you get the best of google's expertise here
Contact Search - here starts the woes, its pathetic to say the least. But by the way, you can use the google search option, which is good
Battery - bad and if i had not used BlackBerry 9000, i would have said, its pathetic. However, its nowehere near to BlackBerry 9700
Copy paste - hello, its pathetic, no match to either BlackBerry or Apple OS
Shifting of screen or whatever you call it - slow and very slow are the words. No match to IOS
Data Plans - although, i get free data usage on this device, but for normal customers, compared to BlackBerry, its costly and does not offer any advantage of shrinking of data and stuff. So it will hit you hard. But to be fair, you cant blame Nexus for it
Tethering - have tried doing it on XP and failed. Have heard it works on Windows 7 and Vista only, so chuck it. Or maybe, i am wrong
Well i have written enough and will continue........
One point i missed, since it cant work on BES, so you will not get any super feature of BES on it. You will still need to go to your parochial laptop for sending meeting requests and stuffs. With BlackBerry, i never missed any meetings. With it, i can.
